Momma always told me people would cast me
out due to my imperfect face and speech
disability.
Momma said that I would have to put in
more work than others beyond everyone’s
capability in hopes for the possibility to
succeed without the grace of Man’s humility.
And yet, even in that, people would still
turn me away based on my physical
appearance and see me as one having
multiple deficiencies.
Momma said there may be no inclusion; leaving me isolated
all alone, excluded.
I graduated with honors,
excelled in all my classes,
got the highest degree with honors and
yet; you still look pass me.
I smile and greet all because to me,
you are just like me;
HUMAN!
I accept you for your differences.
If only you could accept me.
Momma said “never give up and one day
blessings will be”,
“keep love in your heart and live the way life should be”
(Without uniformity)
And to treat each individual with dignity,
Living inequity free.
See me!
I am present and far from an absentee.
As my nerves tremble like the ground on the ocean’s floor
I am weakened, but fierce awaiting my walk through this grand door
What wonders await me?
As past loves escape me, in this moment there is only you and I
Look at you hanging there starring back at me
With beautiful laces and pearls and a royal tail to follow me
Free from stains or being stretched out
To my body, you are perfectly made without a doubt
I wear you with dignity, but even more diligently
As the fabrics on you cradle my skin, emotions of joy are released I can no longer hold in
And as we unite, I can hear the bells ringing before they begin
Are you ready? All eyes are on us and not one bulb is dim
Picture perfect!
To be the main attraction, we both deserve it
So, as I slip into you, and we become of One Garment
I will always remember this day as being our greatest performance
For you are clothing art to an artist
The Garment………………
How amazing when we stop to take a look at things,
the way a garden blooms and the smell of spring
Pure in its form like a seasoned rain
I wonder what miracles life will bring
Past afflictions no longer choke
In this instant, I can finally breath
In the wind my spirit floats
White butterfly, come fly with me
Away I ascend periodically
through the flowers lost but found I’ll be
Lost in its light and profound purity
White butterfly, come fly with me
Stroke my cheek as a pacific breeze
Wipe away doubt and insecurities
On this journey we will both unite
End the old and begin new life
